Businesses and Bathrooms
You might think business restrooms a funny thing to write about. However, it can be quite a concern for people who are disabled. During this past year (2010), I have become disabled by psoriatic arthritis and a stiffening of my sacrum making it hard to walk. Businesses need to understand when the building is being built or renovated; toilet tissue holders need to be at height that a disabled person is able to access it without problems. If the holder is too low to the floor as it is in a prominent book seller, the disabled person has a hard time reaching. If there is a bar in which the disabled may use to balance themselves, the holder needs to be above the bar not below it.
The reason I am blogging about this subject is that the disabled will shop with their family and friends. If these people have a hard time in the restrooms of one store, it is likely they will find other stores at which to shop.
