About Tom Strader
Born and raised in Danville Virginia, I left my home state at 17 when I entered boot camp and became a United States Marine in 1976. I trained as a Tactical Air Traffic Controller and Electronics Technician in 29 Palms California and was stationed at Cherry Point, NC and Futenma, Okinawa as well as having the chance to travel all over the Far East.
The Marines taught me that discipline and team work was above all else and they taught me to have the attitude of never give up, never give in. I do not accept failure, it's not an option. It''s a new starting point.
I started my career in Information Technology in 1987 when I purchased an NRI McGraw/Hill C+ Programming course that included a 286 12 mhz PC with two floppy drives. After that, I was hooked and could not get enough about computers and how they worked. I volunteered my time at a local PC shop as their BBS Administrator and assisted/watched the technicians when they made repairs on PC's and Servers.
Eventually I entered several instructor led classes learning Windows NT Core Technologies, Exchange 5.5/2003/2007, Citrix, Microsoft SQL server and Cisco switches and routing as well as other technologies through Ikon Technologies and Horizon Learning Systems.
I am a tenacious, dedicated and energetic self-starter, effective working both independently and as a team member. I have strong interpersonal and communication skills and try to make everyone around me feel confident with the task at hand. I have a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain sound business relationships with a proven record developing solutions that improve efficiency of IT and business operations with an ability to focus on high-payoff improvements to achieve immediate bottom-line benefits.
I have a strong technical support acumen with a background in multi-platform systems and network topologies including Microsoft, Linux, Apple MAC, Cisco, HP, Dell and IBM.
I have a proven ability to assume challenging roles and perform in highly visible positions working under pressure to meet deadlines and produce strong sustainable results. I have been instrumental in reducing costs by implementing cost control measures, securing competitive pricing and utilizing Open Source and in-house developed applications and tools to achieve desired results.

I love to learn new technologies. If it's not broke, I try to break it so I can fix it. Just kidding... but in reality I am very curious how "it works" and I do not give up until I know everything about the subject or the issue is resolved.
Eventually, I would like to manage a large Data Center one day or be an IT Manager so I can help others achieve their goals.
