Self motivation, dedication and commitment to the complete understanding of the body's structure, the awareness of the reliance all the organs and systems of the body have on the correct alignment of the musculoskeletal system to enable them to operate to capacity. I believe that the many hours of self imposed study that was necessary, because there were and still are, no schools in massage therapy that taught advanced remedial massage, turned out to be a great advantage. This was because it allowed me to study the body in the greater depth and detail I required as I was not governed or restricted to a set text or curriculum, nor was I influenced by the lecturers concept or beliefs. It enabled me to form my own logical approach, understanding and interpretation of the complete function of the body, the interaction of one system with another and their reliance on the muscular system to operate to capacity. This enabled me to develop methods, procedures and techniques to relax the body and perform the required movements of muscles, tendons and ligaments to correct any abnormalities. Also from my varied occupations I acquired the awareness and understanding of how the different types of employment such as farmers, office workers, plasterers, factory or industrial workers and varied sporting activities could influence the type of injury or complaint they presented and the type of treatment required. From my tailoring I had learned to assess the stance or shape of the persons body as they walked into the room and this made me aware of any abnormality in there stance or body structure. Very important the tolerance, understanding and the great support of my wife, together with her knowledge and nursing experience.
