About Milton Parent
I was born in Nakusp BC in 1934. After completing high school I moved to Vancouver, married and raised four children. In 1984, my wife, Rosemarie and I returned to Nakusp for semi retirement. Having started collecting Arrow Lakes history as a hobby at the coast since 1972 I now joined the newly formed Arrow Lakes Historical Society in Nakusp. Rosemarie and I immediately took over and expanded the museum. Unable to find anyone who would utilize the material I had accummulated for the purpose of publishing a book I decided to start the project myself. Not being a writer made it was difficult but over the years seven volumes were produced. Several of these books were conceived after the Society separated from the museum and operated the Archives alone.
My involvement in archival work has always been a labour of love. No remuneration has ever been received and in fact my own costs have been considerable. The satifaction of having preserved the memories, photographs, first-hand accounts and artifacts of the early pioneers is reward enough. It is an honour for me to bring life to the past, especially my own family that settled in the region in 1896 and 1911 respectively.
