About Hilary Du Cros
Hilary is an Associate Professor for the Hong Kong Institute of Education’s Department of Cultural and Creative Arts. Utilizing her expansive knowledge base and creative thinking, Hilary consistently builds insight on Cultural Heritage and the impacts of tourism. Hilary extends her passion to her students, as a speaker for many well known organizations and through her writing. Thoroughly researching topics of interest, Hilary captivates an increasingly larger audience as she has written 97 published works including two books. Continuing to expand her presence in Cultural and Creative Arts, Hilary serves as Senior Research Coordinator for UNESCO Observatory for Research in Local Cultures and Creativity in Education.
Dr. du Cros has had two careers during her professional life. Her current career as an academic began after 1998, when she moved to Hong Kong. She has taught in Hong Kong and Macau and has conducted research in the Asia Pacific region. The first career, from 1984 to 1998, was as heritage management consultant. This period included nine years as the owner operator of du Cros and Associates, a consulting firm located in Melbourne, Australia, specializing in heritage conservation, visitor management planning and heritage impact assessment as part of the EIA planning process in Australia. Hilary has been more active as a public intellectual commenting on current heritage issues. Media reports have been released in the Chinese and English media in Hong Kong regarding her professional opinions.

- The graduation of the first batch of heritage management students from the Institute For Tourism Studies, Macau, 2009, because I helped create the program.
- Meeting a Living Buddha in Zhongdian, China, while working on the UNWTO Tourism Masterplan.
- Helping to organize two influential international conferences – the Inaugural Women in Archaeology Conference, Albury, 1991 and the Urban Heritage and Tourism Conference, Macau, 2009.
