About Garry Niemeyer
You can read my Bio below. Last year I recieved the "World of Corn Award" from the Illinois Corn Growers in November 2009. This spring I was selected as one of four to recieve the Prairie Farmer magazines "2010 Master Farmer Award". Since my graduation from the University of Illinois in 1970 I have been actively farming in the Auburn, Illinois area on our family farm. Niemeyer Farms includes 2,200 acres of grain production. 85% is corn production and 15% is seed soybean production. My BS degree was in Agricultural Economics and has helped me to get a basic and technical understanding of how to farm in America. However, it became very apparent to me that without good ag policies farmers needed to work through risk management decisions, we would be in a precarious position with weather, price, and general business risk that we have had to deal with. Therefore, I have been really interested in Farm Policy as well as promoting growth through passing two Renewable Fuel Agreements that created a demand of 15 billion bushel of corn to produce 15 billion gallons of ethanol by the year 2015 all the while maintaining a robust supply for all corn needs here in the United States and abroad. We are also diligently working on upgrading seven 1,200 foot locks along the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers. Most of these locks were built in the 1930s and are in need of replacement. I have spent time in Washington DC helping to lobby for these changes that will create the opportunities for profitability to all of our members.
