Dr Livingstone grew up in a small counrty town, before moving to Melbourne to study Medicine. Both parents served in World War II, both were shipwrecked and both were taken prisioner. Her father served in the Middle-east and her mother in Singapore. Dr Livingstone grew up amongst horses, competing in many events and enjoying many adventures with them. She has twin brothers and a sister who died in a motor vehicle accident. She has three children, who are now independent. Her partner is a ex-Royal Air Force. Dr Livingstone and Hamish are active members of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia
