About Carol Rhodes
During 1979-1980, I was a welfare services missionary in Bolivia, working with the Aymara Indians in the Andes mountains. I was able to utilize my skills as a physical therapist on many occasions, enabling my patients to return to normal functioning. It was a primative area 14,000-16,000 feet above sea level, with very few medical supplies available. I called upon every skill I had developed. I performed manipulations, wound care, gait training, exercises, and even learned to give injections of gammaglobulin to myself and my fellow missionaries, to prevent hepatitis.
Professional presentations: Ohio Orthopedic Society Annual Conference 1982; research paper on ""The use of TENS in the reduction of pain following total knee and hip replacement surgeries" (Guest of Dr. Arthur Steffee). Also presented to the APTA Northeast District, and on NBC-TV Cleveland's "The Dave Patterson talk Show". Spoke regarding TENS and pain at Cuyahoga Community College. Numerous outreach presentations on a variety of Physical Therapy topics, given over the span of the last 42 years. Involved in the Electronic Medical Record initiative for University Hospitals System during 2008-2009.
