About Beth Friedland
Park Ophthalmology was established in 1984, starting in the Research Triangle Park of North Carolina. At that time, few medical services were available to the tens of thousands of workers in close proximity, and most of the population sought eyecare near their homes instead of their workplaces, with lost productivity as a result. The business model was very successful, and in response to patient demand, a second location was added, a few years later. In both cases, overhead was initially kept low by leasing under utilized space and personnel capacity from a family practice or urgent care physician. When the patient flow warranted it, I was able to move to a nearby location and continue an excellent working relationship with the primary care practices.
I have been active in several community and volunteer organizations, from literacy projects with donated eye exams, to the highly successful EyeCare America program started by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Future Career And Business Goals :
I plan to build upon the sucess of Park Ophthalmology by careful expansion of the private practice, with attention to changes in health care and the expected influx of potential future patients brought about by the aging baby boom generation and the wider access to health insurance.
For the clinical research aspect of the practice, I plan to continue to participate in several exciting endeavors, ranging from the ocular surface, to the optic nerve and in between.
