About Trysh Ashby-Rolls
Trysh is an Independent Author and Journalist specializing in challenging social issues. With a Bachelors Degree in Theatre from Rose Bruford College, Trysh's career began as a classical actress in England. She changed course after coming to Canada, where she trained as a broadcast journalist, quickly rising from Canada's first professional News Anchor in the Canadian Cable Industry to Story Editor at CBC-Toronto's 'Metro Morning', where she worked with the iconic Shelagh Rogers. The late great veteran of Canadian television newsrooms, Bert Cannings, hired Trysh to present, write and produce a weekly current affairs program at CHCH Television. Bert cemented Trysh's specialization in reporting on challenging social issues, sending her to cover a sex-trade workers' conference and other assignments in the trenches of the Human Condition.
Fulfilling a lifelong desire to further her academic training, Trysh went on to earn a Master’s Degree with Distinction in Education and Women’s Studies, specializing in Psycho-Education with Traumatized Populations, from the University of London, England, where she was born and raised.
"I wanted to make a change in the world and journalism seemed a good way to start," she says. "I walked into a major television station in Toronto and asked to be shown the ropes." From there she attended a 3-month course that taught her how to write for television, do reports on the street and read the news. "By the way, in those days there were no teleprompters."
Currently, Trysh is pursuing publication for her recent work ‘Left Behind Dad: A Father’s Search for his Missing Children’ - a book about parent-child abduction. As well, she travels extensively to research and interview in preparation for writing ‘Burnished Gold: Stories from Around the World of Resilience, Courage and Healing after Major Trauma’ and to read from her work under the Canada Council Reading Program.
Trysh came to the public's attention with her highly acclaimed book, 'Triumph: A Journey of Healing from Incest.' It was the first book anywhere to articulate healing in the aftermath of sexual child abuse, simultaneously describing the childhood horror itself. It is used in many college and university courses and, judging by the letters Trysh has received from readers, has helped hundreds of adult survivors, male and female, who have endured and survived similar acts of betrayal in their childhoods.
