About Sophie Baldwin
Sophie is the owner of Sophie's Cafe. Her career in hospitality stems from working at her fathers restaurant doing dishes, as probably the youngest waitress in New Zealand at the age of 11. She learned to roll 500 wontons in half an hour, memorizing the restaurants meals and drinks without writing any orders down, yet could not remember their names.
Sophie's greatest career and personal achievements include opening Hamburger Heaven from 1982 to 1987, buying her first home in 1990 at the age of 27, finding Burger Mania in 1991 to 1993 and moving on to run Sophie's Cafe since 1994. She is also a Business Mentor since 2008.
Her first endeavor was possible in large due to the ministering of her first business mentor Alan Butcher, Co-Founder of David Reid Homes and the Barn Company, who inspired Sophie to open her first business in ChCh, New Zealand. Along the way Sophie has overcome every challenge that presented itself to her whether that includes undertaking new opportunities and learning life lessons of adaptability and flexibility or unexpected natural events. Her experience grew to include marketing, profitability, cash flow as she strengthened her natural ideals of perseverance through and through.
She operated each company on the principle that business is only as good as the person in charge. With Sophie's Cafe she has overcome a series of huge earthquakes and aftershocks with buildings and businesses closing in all around. After 5 major earthquakes in Christchurch, New Zealand and 35 years in the hospitality business Sophie decided to branch out into helping people in the industry achieve their dreams as a both a NZ Accredited Business Mentor and Canterbury's Hospitality Business Consultant.
Receiving accreditation as a New Zealand business mentor in addition to being a mentor for the Canterbury Business Association marked a significant place in Sophie's life due to the fact that she never completed High School. Her background in the business is accredited to her knowledge as she states, "With 39 years of experience and trials and trivializations I believe I can help you tackle any part of your business by guiding you every step of the way."
Subsequently throughout her career, Sophie has learned new procedures of dealing with tragedy and danger, serving and feeding customers with compassion and motivation to lead a better life and offer better services.
